The Maternal Home of Dobrich Dobrich, Bulgaria |
The Maternal Home of Dobrich is located in Dobrich, Bulgaria. Dobrich is the eighth most populated town in Bulgaria. It is located in the northeastern part of the country - in the mountains. It is not far from the Black Sea and the resort city of Varna. It houses nearly 150 children ages 0-3. These children are mostly normal children with only developmental delays. The Home takes children who are abandoned due to medical reasons, poverty, etc... |
Current Dobrich Projects We are currently accepting Relief Supplies for the Maternal Home of Dobrich. These include, but are not limited to: Clothes Pajamas Shoes Hats Blankets Coats Toothbrushes Toothpaste Hardy Candy (no chocolate) Small Toys (matchbox cars, crayons, coloring books, dolls, etc...) A write up on the Maternal Home of Dobrich: We arrived at the orphanage at 10AM and had a meeting with the director again. We told her we would like to donate to the orphanage... and that they could use the sum for whatever they needed... they went back and forth between fuel to run the heaters and food -- the food won out. They said that the fuel company was often lenient on the bills so they could be late - but when food ran out that was it; the grocery would not give them a loan or take a late payment. So we decided on the food. I couldn't help but thinking how awful to have to make such a choice... A lady from the orphanage took us to the city's food warehouse and chose what they needed. They bought cherries, paprika sauce, tomato sauce, and vegetables - the money we donated was enough to feed all the children for 15 days. The director of the orphanage was so incredibly thankful and it was very humbling to know that we had helped them so much... what we donated was nothing to sneeze at, but it is something easily affordable on our salaries and something we had been saving for - and to know that it was such a great amount to them is very humbling, indeed. We were amazed to see that their food warehouse was what we in the US would call a small Farmer's Market. I was expecting a Sam's or something, but of course realized once I got there that I had forgotten I wasn't in the US, but in Bulgaria! |
